The veneration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a movable feast – celebrated 8 days after the Lord’s Day, on Friday or the third Friday after Pentecost.

The visions of Saint Margaret of Alacoque led to the following depiction of the heart of Jesus: an open, flaming heart with a cross growing out of it, symbolizing death undertaken out of love.
